The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Procedure is an exciting new alternative to hip replacement, now available in the United States. It has been used around the world since 1997, and has been implanted over 60,000 times with successful results.
What to Expect During Surgery
Patients of all our Nano Clinic locations – including Los Angeles, Arroyo Grande, and San Luis Obispo – have access to the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure. Through an incision over the thigh bone, your surgeon will displace the femoral head from the socket. The damaged areas will be trimmed away with precision, preserving as much healthy bone as possible.
You will then be fitted with a metal cap. Inside the socket, any damaged bone and cartilage will be removed, and a metal cup will be fixed to the area. To complete the procedure, we will position the femoral head inside the socket and close the incision.
